Headteacher's Welcome

At Barr’s Hill School everything we do is focused on Building Brighter Futures for our all of our students and our wider community. Our ethos of PRIDE encourages students to achieve their very best in all aspects of school life, both in the classroom and beyond.

We consistently achieve outstanding exam results and rank among the top schools nationally for pupil progress. Yet, school life offers much more than exams…

A crucial part of Building Brighter Futures for our students is providing a high-quality educational experience delivered through our ‘seven year journey’ focusing on our academic curriculum and an exceptional programme of enriching experiences, all designed to develop and prepare students for the next stage of their journey in school and for living in the wider world. Our aim is that all students are happy and confident learners which leads them to achieve both academically and personally.

Through their seven-year journey, they develop PRIDE - becoming Proactive, Responsible, Inquisitive, Determined and Engaged. These values shape the way they learn, behave and contribute - now and in their future.

We focus on whole-child development through our extensive, free enrichment programme. This includes Sport, Performance, Academic, and Service opportunities, keeping students engaged during breaks, lunchtimes, and after school.

As a smaller school, we place great importance on knowing each student well and making sure they feel safe, happy, and supported. Their journey begins in The Bridge - a dedicated space designed for both learning and social development. Year 7 students benefit from specialist teaching, including subjects like Latin and Classics, as well as tailored timetables and small group lessons to help them make rapid progress from the very start.

Our passionate staff ensure success at every stage, culminating in Post-16 Select, our popular sixth form. Last year, 97% of Post-16 students progressed to university, with the rest entering top apprenticeships. Over a quarter went to prestigious Russell Group Universities, including Oxford, Warwick, and King’s College London.
