Our curriculum is ambitious for all learners and focuses on developing the breadth and depth of pupils’ competence in all four skills; listening, reading, writing and speaking, based on a sound foundation of core grammar and vocabulary.
The curriculum has a strong focus on phonics to develop listening and speaking skills and helps students to develop strong sound-spelling knowledge. Our curriculum enables pupils to understand and communicate personal and factual information that goes beyond their immediate needs and interests, developing and justifying points of view in speech and writing, with increased spontaneity, independence and accuracy. The Spanish curriculum aims to foster pupils’ curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world through teaching culture and language. Our teaching enables pupils to express their ideas and thoughts in another language and to understand and respond to its speakers, both in speech and in writing. It also provides opportunities for students to communicate for practical purposes, learn new ways of thinking and read literature in the target language. Careers education is strong throughout the curriculum enabling students to develop their understanding of a wide range of career opportunities for Spanish speakers.
