The KS5 curriculum offers an engaging and effective introduction to Psychology. Learners will learn the fundamentals of the subject and develop skills valued by Higher Education and employers, including critical analysis, independent thinking, and research.
The curriculum provides a coherent and holistic programme of study and appeals to a crosssection of students, regardless of whether they have studied the subject before. It builds on skills developed in the sciences and humanities and enables progression into a wide range of other subjects. Psychology is one of the science group of subjects and has the same assessment objectives as the other A-level sciences. The exams will measure how well students have achieved them. The A-level course includes a wide range of mathematical skills, a detailed exploration of biological ideas, a comprehensive and critical study of the different approaches in Psychology and a wide range of contemporary implications and applications of psychological theory and research. The significance of the scientific method to Psychology is critically considered and practical experience of a range of research methods is expected.
