Post 16 Group Mentoring Project
A number of students attended the final session of the Sixth Form Group Mentoring project at Barr’s Hill School on 12th June. Students have met regularly with a number of business volunteers from companies PepsiCo, DWP, Coventry College, Arcadis, Coventry University, National Grid and Prompt Training and discussed employability topics together, including:
• Communication skills
• Self Awareness
• Career Management
• Problem solving
Three students were consistent attenders and completed the programme and they were Josh Hyde, Hamza Mukhtar and Shahzad Hussain. The photo shows them receiving their Certificates with two of the mentors, James Fenton from PepsiCo and Conrad Pfahler from DWP.
“It’s been great to be part of the programme and support the pupils – I’ve been really
impressed with the approach that yourself and the school have taken in trying to help the youngsters improve their chances of success going forward – you do a fantastic job!” – Sarah, PepsiCo
Students taking part in such activities are viewed particularly well by employers and universities and studies show that students who have regular contacts with employers are far more likely to succeed in their chosen career.
We are extremely grateful to the business volunteers who have given up their time and energies to help our students and to the students themselves from valuing and participating in this opportunity.
