IMPORTANT: Letter to all Parents/Carers (22nd May 2020)

Dear Parents/Carers

I hope you are well and enjoying the lovely weather.

In this complex time with so much uncertainty and conflicting views in the news, I thought I would remind parents and carers of a few key things.

School closed over half term

The provision for vulnerable and key worker students that has been running at President Kennedy School will be closed over the half term period, as we would normally be in a school year. Following the Local Authority and school partnership principles, schools are able to take this time, and it will help us to prepare the school site to possibly re-open to more children if and when it is safe to do so. The vulnerable and key worker students’ provision will re-open on Barr’s Hill site on Monday 1st June for eligible students. If you would like your son or daughter to take up a place in this provision you must contact your child’s Hub Director beforehand. The list of key workers who are eligible for a place can be found here.

Free School Meals

The most recent Supermarket vouchers, for those eligible for Free School Meals, have been delivered by email to cover a 4 week period. The government are no longer funding this for school holidays, so the current voucher will cover the period up to Friday 12th June. Under the current system you should receive the next voucher during the week leading up to 12th June.

Possible Re-Opening for Year 10 and 12 students

I would like to thank all the year 10 and 12 parents who have responded to the survey we sent out. It has been very useful to hear your concerns to feed into our planning. We continue to plan for a possible re-open for Year 10 and 12 students, but this will not take place during the w/b: 1st June. During this first week back after the half term break, we will make contact with all parents and students to discuss your feelings about the possibility of returning to school for some face to face contact with teachers. We really want to understand what your thoughts and concerns may be and how we can best support you. In the meantime, we are working hard to prepare the school in case we are asked to re-open if and when it is safe to do so.

I will write to give you more information as soon as we can to confirm further arrangements. Please do get in contact if you have any questions. I hope you have a safe and lovely half term break and that the weather holds.

Yours sincerely

Mr C Jupp
