A successful ‘Getting to know each other’ morning!

A successful ‘Getting to know each other’ morning!

Here at Barr’s Hill School we offer a very special programme called ‘7 for Year 7’ which ensures our new students make a flying start academically and enjoy lots of activities which help them get to know their new teachers and make new friends. Over the weekend, 53 children who will join ‘The Bridge’ (a dedicated space for new year 7’s from September) came along to a event called ‘Getting to know each other morning’.

Students took part in circle time activities, parachute fun and arts and crafts, including painting animal masks, decorating a plant pot and planting a seed, stone painting, making door handle signs and making a paper bridge to support a brain! By the end, all students had made at least one new friend for September.

There is something very special about your son or daughter leaving Primary School and taking their next big step into Secondary School. We also recognise that this time can feel a little daunting. Many families are drawn to Barr’s Hill School because we are smaller than many other secondary schools with no more than 130 pupils in a year group. This means that we can offer a more cohesive environment where teachers and students know each other well and we notice if someone is happy about something they have achieved or in need of a friend.

Messages from parents:

I’d like to say a HUGE thank you to all of you making this possible for our children to feel they ‘belong’ and settle quickly…

My daughter has had a great time every time we have been to Barr’s hill, to see how happy she’s been each time she’s been to your school is heart warming!

Thank you for everything you are doing to help with transition into secondary school, Look forward to our next visit
