I'm A Councillor. Get Me Out Of Here!
Thursday, 14 October 2010 16:51

Year 7 took part in this event as part of their Citizenship curriculum. 6 Coventry councillors put themselves up for it and by the time we joined on Wednesday, 2 had already been evicted by the votes of Coventry students.

Of the 4 remaining, Cllrs Lynette Kelly and Jim O'Boyle came in and answered some very searching questions from 7J and 7B while 7S, 7T and 7W took part in a live on-line chat with Cllrs Rachel Lancaster and Ed Ruane. The students then voted for the rest of the week but unfortunately Jim O'Boyle was evicted before most could vote!

The eventual winner and youth champion for 2010 was Ed Ruane who our students did find funny on the live chat. It was a very interesting and informative experience for our students who learnt a great deal first-hand about local democracy.

Hospitality in Action!
Wednesday, 13 October 2010 11:44

Our 6th form BTEC Level 2 Hospitality group thoroughly enjoyed a morning out at the White Lion in Allesley last Thursday. Lisa the Assistant Manager gave a great speech and informed the learners of many useful “world of work” facts.

Learners visited the pub (and restaurant) to enhance their knowledge and complete their assignment on products, services and level of service.

Girls' Rugby Cup Viewing + Netball Results
Tuesday, 12 October 2010 13:57

Carnegie Cup with Rugby TeamOn Friday 8th October, the Carnegie Challenge Cup visited Barr's Hill School, much to Tony Moore's delight being a Warrington Wolves fan (they were this years winners!).

We were one of two City schools who got to see the cup and this was the second time the girls had seen it, because it was also at the National Schools Championship in Wigan earlier on this year!

Just before the summer holiday a group of year 9 pupils had the opportunity to undertake a Rugby League Training session with Wigan Warriors Rugby League Team. They undertook a number of ball handling skills and tackling techniques to improve their already fantastic rugby skills.

Flashback: Summer School 2010
Monday, 11 October 2010 08:12

img_8982_mod1Students attending the first week of this year’s Summer Activities had a great time learning how to build a waterproof shelter from natural materials, building campfires and cooking all sorts of delicious dishes as well as making and playing their own didgeridoo!

The second week was packed full of fun activities when they were able to make masks and other arts & crafts, learn new trampoline skills, how to walk on stilts, use a Diablo and many more circus skills which culminated in a performance for parents at the end of the week.

Science Theatre Production
Friday, 01 October 2010 10:40

ScienceOn Monday and Wednesday last week year 9 took part in a science themed theatre project focusing on the real world applications of science and technology. The production entitled Magnets, Ducks and Superconductors took place in the gym to a warm reception from the year 9’s.

The production focused on the links between scientists and new technology, particularly looking at examples of superconductor technology such as the Maglev train due to come into service in Japan during the next few years.
