R.E.A.D With Me!
Thursday, 15 July 2010 09:55

readwithmeThe Year 12 BTEC level 3 Drama students – known as “Stage Frighters” -  recently created a piece of theatre exploring the ”Summer Reading Dip” in an attempt to encourage pupils to read over the summer holidays. Having worked hard to develop and shape the materials the company were ready for performance on the Transition Day for Year 6 pupils. The result?  An entertaining and informative show which we hope will have inspired everyone to keep reading over their summer holidays! You can see photos of the event in our Gallery.

Well done Year 12!

Coventry Telegraph Award Winners
Friday, 09 July 2010 12:04

awardceremony2010The Barr's Hill website has won an award from the Coventry Telegraph School Award 2010 under the category "Best School Newspaper / Website".  Congratulations to everybody who has put their efforts in making the website and the content as award-winning as this.

The following is a report from a number of the students who attended the awards ceremony:

"On Thursday the 8th July we went to the transport museum for the Coventry Telegraph schools awards 2010. Our school was short-listed for the school Newspaper / website award against St. Paul’s Church of England Primary school.

"Firstly, we were offered drinks and received a goody bag each, and then we were seated in the dining area where we ate and all the awards were presented. We had a selection of different pastas, spaghetti Bolognese, or mini pizza’s with salad to choose from.

"Soon after, the awards were given out to each of the categories which were short listed to only two schools in each! Then it came to our category which we were entered for, in which we won. We were then presented with our award."

The school was awarded a certificate and a £500 bursary.  Well done!

Students Celebrate!
Sunday, 04 July 2010 10:38

DSC00249On Thursday 1st July, students, parents, staff and guests met to celebrate the talents and achievements of our students at their Celebration Evening.

More than 500 people enjoyed an evening of music, drama and award presentations.  Students from Years 7-13 were nominated by their teachers to receive subject or year group awards for Effort, Attainment or Service.   It was fantastic to see more than 200 students coming onto the stage to receive their scroll and book - student smiles were matched by those of the audience who celebrated with them.

The steel pan groups, a rock band and the Glee Club voices provided superb musical performances.  Tutor group 7C gave an excellent presentation called 'When I grow older', which spoke of the many exciting opportunities which await students who join Barr's Hill in Year 7.  Year 10 Performing Arts students pleased the audience with a well-received rendition of 'Spooky', an extract from their recent musical hit 'Gangsters and Molls'.

The Secret Garden
Friday, 02 July 2010 18:45

S6008961Last week eight students from the BTEC Land and Environment course started to clear the garden near Connexions.  As you can see there was plenty to clear!

Once they got some of the brambles , nettles and overgrown shrubs out of the way they discovered stone steps leading to a hidden garden area.  Inside they discovered rambling roses and other shrubs struggling to reach the light.
